One of my favorite shows over the last 8 years is How I Met Your Mother. Where Ted Moseby tells his kids the long drawn out story of how he met their mom. One of the questions I get asked a lot is Why Victoria? How did I end up here? Well kids here’s the story about how I got to where I am today! 🙂
A Fortunate Break
I recently broke my shoulder, and I knew it as soon as it happened. I didn’t need to go to the hospital for the doctor to tell me it was broken. I just needed to know how bad it was. I am sure if I wasn’t with the youth I was working with at the time. There would have been some choice words that flew out of my mouth. How did I break my shoulder?
Well short version tobogganing! Long version, tobogganing, with a side of shoulder crashing into the ground with another person running over me at the same time. Somehow I was able to maintain composure as I rolled over, stared at the sky and attempted to move my shoulder a crunch echoed through my body. One of the teens said to me, we shouldn’t have went tobogganing. My response was I would and will do it again. To live your life in fear is not a way to live at all. What I didn’t realize in that moment I was living in fear but not of sliding and tumbling down hills. I had no idea what was coming around the corner.
Thankfully I didn’t need surgery and it continues to heal today. In a weird way though my broken shoulder helped me identify a piece of me that I had lost. It set me back on a path that was laid on my heart in a previous time that I had been ignoring and forgot. and what started my collision course with my future…well not entirely.
